The city of Mandan has a City Visitors' Promotion Fund the money comes from the occupancy, restaurant and lodging tax.  

This tax money is decided by a unelected committee on how this money should be used for our city hopefully bringing a great visitor's experience to our community.  The city commission does have the final say and gives the stamp approval or rejects it. 

These members decide what projects to distribute the money to

Criteria for Visitors Fund Requests

1. All requests must be made in written form and submitted to the City Administrator.
   a) Outline the nature of the request in size and scope.
   b) Benefits to the community.
   c) Request must conform to all applicable municipal ordinances and codes.
   d) Principle people or organizations involved.
   e) List of other funds or commitments for the project.
   f) Time line for the start and completion of the project.
   g) Number of dollars requested from the visitors fund.
   h) Present acceptable evidence that additional required private financing is available which will allow the proposal, if accepted to be completed.
2. No requests will be approved except at scheduled meetings.
3. Attempts will be made to maintain a 15% liquidity of the fund.
4. Approved projects will be submitted to the City Commission in writing for final approval.
5. Additional criteria may be added as needed.
